Earlier this week, trademarks and artwork for a new wrestling promotion called All Elite Wrestling were discovered. The promotion was said to be founded by Chris Jericho, Jim Ross, Cody Rhodes, and The Young Bucks. It has since been reported that Jericho and Ross are actually not involved in launching the promotion, but the members of The Elite are still very much involved. AEW is also said to be receiving financial support from Tony Khan of the billionaire Khan family that owns the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was also rumored that AEW would air a weekly show on AXS TV, but the network has denied that they are working with AEW. Neither Cody nor The Bucks have commented on the matter as of yet, but new details and interesting about the upcoming promotion continue to surface each day now.
More details and information about All Elite Wrestling was revealed during Wrestling Observer Radio earlier in the week. It was noted that The Young Bucks are the two key players involved in launching the promotion right now. If the two of them were to join WWE or re-sign with ROH in early 2019, or if they just simply decide to leave the project, it would essentially be dead. The Young Bucks are said to be under contract to ROH for at least the remainder of the year, which means that negotiations for a new deal with Ring of Honor haven’t begun yet. Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes’ ROH contract has already expired, and his final match with the promotion will be his world title match against Jay Lethal at Final Battle on December 14th.
As far as potential roster members for AEW are concerned, it was mentioned that Cody Rhodes, Brandi Rhodes, and Chris Jericho are all free agents at the moment. Also, some members of the WWE roster have even reportedly taken an interest in possibly jumping ship if the promotion gets off the ground and becomes popular. Additionally, the “Double or Nothing” trademark that was filed is likely going to be used for AEW’s first pay-per-view, which will also serve as the follow-up to All In. The “All Out” trademark is set for a different event. Killing the Business Inc. has also trademarked their Being the Elite YouTube series, but a request for “The Elite” is still pending as of now. The promotion is expected to debut in late 2019/early 2020.
