BROOKFIELD, WI — The BP Gas Station at 124th and Burleigh was so busy Monday night, police responded to area to find out what was going on.
When they investigated, they didn’t find anything illegal. What they did find, however, were gas prices so cheap, they caused a stir.
According to a WISN-TV report, a clerk at the gas station put in the wrong price just before the station closed at about 9 p.m. The pumps are set up to run after the store closes.
Instead of posting the price of mid-grade fuel at $2.89, the price was listed at 28 cents per gallon.
WISN-TV footage showed the gas station packed with cars as an on-duty officer tried to figure out what, if anything, to do.
“Would you mind telling me what is going on here?” a Brookfield police officer asks one of the customers.
“Good gas, that’s all,” the customer says back.
An ABC-7 report stated that the gas station lost $3,500 because of the mishap, but that the price was later changed back.
