While in the U.K. as part of WWE’s announcement regarding the introduction of their new WWE United Kingdom Championship, former WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor spoke with ESPN about his recovery status and more.
Regarding the timetable for his long-awaited WWE return, “The Demon” addressed rumors regarding him possibly popping up as a surprise entrant at next month’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view in the 30-man over-the-top battle royal.
“You know, that’s obviously a huge rumor, and I would never be one to fuel the rumor mills,” said Balor with a smile. “But to be a surprise entrant in the Rumble would be a huge moment for me. I’m sure it would create quite a buzz.”
Balor continued, leading some to believe that a Rumble return may not be that likely, while at the same time indicating that he should still be back in time for next year’s WrestleMania.
“But right now with the condition my shoulder is in, I’m not willing to risk sustaining any more long-term injury, just for the sake of two or three weeks,” Balor said. “Since I got hurt, it was six months [out]. The target was to be back for WrestleMania. Everything’s on plan, everything’s on schedule.”
